About Us
As Wangari Maathai, the prominent environmental activist, once said, “You cannot protect the environment unless you empower people, you inform them, and you help them understand that these resources are their own, that they must protect them.” We take this message to heart in the Woodson Environmental Club, where we do our best to conserve our natural resources and spread awareness on the ecological state of our community and the world as a whole.
Our club engages in diverse activities to promote environmental awareness and preservation. Our goal is to set a precedent for future environmental leaders while taking action to preserve the ecological health of our community today.
Activities we do throughout the school year include:
- Garden maintenance: We take care of Woodson's vegetable and pollinator garden.
- Cleanups and recycling: Our members keep our school campus and local parks safe and trash-free.
- Outreach: We hold educational sessions and garden cleanups at local elementary schools.
The steps we take as a club represent significant actions taken by Woodson's students to improve the state of our environment, preserve our natural resources, and spread awareness on environmental issues and potential solutions.
